Residents In Westmeath Town Turn Out To Oppose Unsanctioned Modular Homes

They arrived in Coole at around 4am.

As many as 18 modular homes have been delivered to a Westmeath village overnight.

Locals say the machinery arrived in Coole at around 4am in the morning, and have remained there since.

It's believed the homes are set to be based on the site of an asylum seeker accommodation facility, which is housing up to 98 International Protection Applicants.

Independent Local Election Candidate, Noeleen Fanning, says the vehicles are blocking the road:

Longford Westmeath TD Robert Troy says the delivery of the homes would be in breach of planning regulations.

The Fianna Fail rep says the individual behind the move has no contract from the state, no planning permission, and no planning exemption.

Deputy Troy says the relevant authorities will need to take action:

More than 40 people have gathered in the village.
